The Armageddon Movie Soundtrack is Sony AOR Guru John Kalodner's latest project, and for the most part he does a very good job of compiling good songs for this album/movie. Slated to be the year's biggest blockbuster film, there was a lot of expectancy and hype for both the movie and the soundtrack. It's very refreshing to FINALLY hear a Guitar Rock Movie Soundtrack the way it always should be.

The opener, Aerosmith's "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" gets 5 Stars and it's got HIT written all over it. A trademark power-ballad with soaring guitars, excellent harmony vocals, string section and a very catchy chorus make up this gem. This one's worth the price of the CD alone. This album also features the first song recorded by Journey with new vocalist Steve Augeri(Tyketto/Tall Stories), "Remember Me," and let me tell you it rocks! Augeri sounds similar to Steve Perry, but in a very good way, and this keeps the Journey sound fresh and intact. Excellent track! The next track is the Aerosmith rocker, "What Kind Of Love Are You On," and this one rocks too. It's vintage Aerosmith, Toys era! Check out the rippin' solo on this one.

Next in line are ZZ Top's classic "La Grange" and Bob Seger's "Roll Me Away" followed by Shawn Colvin's poppish "When The Rainbow Comes," not my cup of tea, but it features very cool slide guitar and soothing vocal harmonies. Aerosmith's classics "Sweet Emotion" and "Come Together" are a pleasant surprise. Jon Bon Jovi's attempt at Alterna-Grunge, "Mister Big Time," follows and let me tell you it's a piece of S**T! It's the worst song he's ever written. And why the F**K is Jon Bon Jovi playing/writing Grunge??? Like the world needs another Alterna-Geek...Could have done without this one personally. Patty Smyth's Wish I Were You is a cool midtempo song, I really love this woman's voice.

Now listen to me: AVOID TRACK 11 AT ALL COST!!! Our Lady Peace with Starseed...What can I say??? MORE THREE-CHORD PIECE OF MOTHER-F'ING S**T WITH TREMBLING GOAT VOCALS THAT RUIN THE ALBUM. Let me stop before I go on a REDRUM spree!!! Went a little over your head with that one, huh? Go and rent The Shining with Jack Nicholson. Chantal Kreviazuk's (WHO???) spacy "Leaving On a Jet Plane" follows, could have done without that one too, but hey it's a soundtrack, right? Former Yes Guitar Virtuoso Trevor Rabin's brilliant "Theme From Armageddon" brings it all together -- really check this one out, it's a beautiful instrumental. The album closes with the almost comical "Animal Crackers," which is a reprise of the opening theme mixed with some romantic dialog. This one'll be a hit with the ladies.

I think you should go out and get this just to show the industry that people want to ROCK and that we DON'T want to hear PUFF-MONKEY'S remakes anymore. WE WANT REAL MUSIC!! And when and if you do get it, don't forget to SKIP TRACK 11!!!!!!!
