For over 30 years, Deep Purple have delighted us with their incredible music. They have endured many lineup changes and much controversy including the loss of founding member and trademark of the band's sound, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. The addition of guitar virtuoso Steve Morse has added new fire to the band as was proven by their latest studio CD, Abandon. Now, they return with an amazing record that does its best to further solidify the band's legendary status, Deep Purple - In Concert With The London Symphony Orchestra.

Back in 1970, Deep Purple assumed the role of Rock N' Roll Pioneers and made music history as they released the critically acclaimed Concerto For Group and Orchestra (composed by Jon Lord) accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded live at The Royal Albert Hall in their native England. Now, nearly 30 years later they return to the Royal Albert Hall to do it all over again, and then some. This double CD not only features a full performance of the Concerto, but also includes Deep Purple Classics, performances from Roger Glover's Butterfly Ball, a Dixie Dregs song, and even an all out final jam. Along for this ride are some very special guests like The Steve Morse Band and the voice of Metal, Ronnie James Dio. In other words, this isn't just a concert, it's an event!!

The performance itself is flawless, with the band sounding as tight as ever, and the Orchestra sounding magnificent. Steve Morse's guitar playing is tailor-made for these kinds of things as he only enhances the performance. Ian Gillan's voice sounds the best it's sounded in years as he pulls off screams and wails that remind you why he is still one of the best voices in Rock. Also, as a bonus, us computer users will be treated to a High-quality Video of one of the songs.

This CD is a must have for Purple fans, but it would also serve as a great introduction for younger fans to the magnificent sounds of this classic, yet rejuvenated band. Long Live The Purple Kings!!
