Bruce Dickinson pulled no punches with his latest and heaviest
release to date, The Chemical Wedding. His thematic vision of alchemists
and medieval times is appropiately conveyed within the music and
artwork. The CD opens with the heavy rocker King In Crimson and
follows steadily with the awesome title track (MetalGod's
pick) in which you can hear some of the routes developed
with his former band the mighty Iron Maiden. His vocals are as awesome
as ever, sometimes even better, his voice has matured and he has
developed his lower range almost to a growl while still maintaining
the soaring operatic high vocals.
For this record, Dickinson kept the Accident Of Birth lineup intact.
Joining Bruce are fellow Maiden alumni Adrian Smith on guitar, and
guitarist/songwriter/producer Roy Z providing the solid melodic
shredding right along with Smith. The rhythm section of bassist
Eddie Casillas and drummer Dave Ingraham further solidify this awesome
core of musicians. Also featured are Bruce's trademark witty, inteligent,
and poetic lyrics.
With Iron Maiden being a mere shadow of what it used to be, fans
have looked to Bruce to provide their Metal fix, and that he has
done with honors. This is a very solid album, featuring poetic lyrics,
melodic riffs and a profound heavyness with tracks like "Killing
Floor," "Gates Of Urizen," "Trumpets of Jericho"
and "Book of Thel" taking metal straight into the next
millenium. Play it often and play it loud!!
