In 1999, Reb Beach replaced George Lynch in
Dokken. The result was the awesome Erase The Slate.
Now, Dokken is back with Live From The Sun, a CD
that just plain smokes! From the opening riff of "Erase
The Slate" up until the outro of "In My Dreams" Reb Beach
is all over this thing shredding away like the coming of
the apocalypse. His leads on "Kiss of Death," "Erase
The Slate," and "Into The Fire" are nothing
short of memorable. But it's his solo during "Too High To
Fly" that just plainly takes your head off. Check it out
because that's worth the price of the disc alone. Don Dokken
sounds great! His vocals are better than they've been in
years; it's definitely great to hear the trademark Dokken
growl again.
Drummer "Wild" Mick Brown is just monstrous
behind the kit, doing some different fills, heavy as hell.
And last, but not least, bassist Jeff Pilson provides the
colorful bass licks to complement the guitar and steady
the drums. One of the most underrated bass players, Pilson
demonstrates his sheer ability to play the four string.
Just check out "It's Not Love." Pilson also provides most
of the awesome vocal harmonies, although all four members
can sing and do some cool four-part harmonies on tracks
like "In My Dreams" and "Breaking The Chains."
All in all, Live From The Sun is a
very cool live collection of Dokken Classics such as "Alone
Again," "The Hunter," "Tooth And Nail," and newer tracks
like "Maddest Hatter." George Lynch once dared to say "Smoke
This" and Reb Beach and Dokken did exactly that! This is
definitely a great CD worth picking up, even if it's just
to pop it in and rock out!
