With Latest & Greatest, Great White delivers yet another collection of their hits. What makes this collection so different is that these are newly recorded and updated versions of some of their greatest songs. The versions on Latest & Greatest are a bit more raw sounding than their original counterparts and, for the most part, that's a good thing.

A killer live version of Led Zeppelin's "In the Light" opens the disc, followed by a string of their hits like "Rock Me," "Face The Day," "Mista Bone," and "House of Broken Love." Vocalist Jack Russell sounds great, maybe even better than before, and recently departed lead guitarist Mark Kendall provides a killer performance in his last hurrah as Great White's axeman (at least for now).

The rhythm Section of drummer Audie Desbrow (underrated beyond belief) and bassist Sean McNabb (Also vastly underrated) are solid and tight as ever as they both get to show off their stuff plenty of times. Also, Great White's MVP Michael Lardie fills in playing guitar, keys and singing background vocals in his usual tight fashion. Lardie (along with Jack Russell) also did a pretty good job producing the record.

Two things are a bit disappointing on this record; (1) the omission of "Wasted Rock Ranger" which is a very popular Great White song that fans can only get as an import and (2) the new version of "Once Bitten Twice Shy" is plenty slow and is a little weird sounding. That being said, the pseudo-acoustic version of "Save Your Love" alone is worth the price of the disc, also the addition of "Lady Red Light" and the live version of "The Angel Song" are pleasant surprises definitely worth mentioning.

Latest & Greatest is essential for Great White fans, but will also prove to be enjoyable for the regular Rock and Roll fan or guitar fan. Plus, in this day and age of the sickening rap/rock mix, it's cool to support a band who steers away from trends and just are themselves; it's cool to support Great White.
