Resurrection marks the triumphant return
of the Metal God himself, Rob Halford, to the realm of Heavy
Metal where he truly belongs. And judging by this rockin'
opus, he's back with a vengeance! Throughout his glorious
career as frontman for the legendary band Judas Priest,
Halford has pretty much redefined Metal singing, and that
continues with Resurrection. Joining Halford are
guitar heroes in the making Patrick Lachman and Mike Chlasciak
along with bassist Ray Riendeau and former Riot drummer
Bobby Jarzombek who's impressive all over this record. Also,
a very important part of Resurrection is producer/songwriter
Roy Z. Responsible for the incredible Bruce Dickinson solo
albums of the late 90's, Roy once again manages to capture
the essence of a Metal Legend.
The CD opens with the pseudo-biographical
title track, where Halford shreds away anybody who's ever
sang into a microphone. A great opener. "Made in Hell" and
"Locked and Loaded," two straight forward power metal tunes
follow, and they allow the duo of Lachman and Chlasiak to
shine. "Nightfall" continues the trend, but this one is
very catchy and melodic. You'll be playing it over and over.
"Silent Screams" is an epic song where Halford showcases
every facet of his incredible voice. A great song indeed
reminiscent of some of the old Priest classics. What follows
is a Metal fan's wet dream as Halford teams up with Iron
Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson on a rippin' duet called
"The One You Love to Hate." People, this song is an event
well worth the price of the CD, trust me. "Cyberworld,"
a rocker reminiscent of Priest's "Freewheel Burnin'," features
some serious shred. "Slow Down" and "Twist" hold you over
until the heavyness of "Temptation," "Drive," and "Saviour"
kick in to close the album and leave you wanting more.
Resurrection is a glorious return to
Metal for someone who deserves to be recognized as a true
innovator and a true legend. This is also a great chance
for kids today to discover the magic and power that a true
Metal album possesses. Spread the word, for the Metal God
is back!
