New Tattoo marks the return of veteran bad-boy rockers Motley Crue. Gone is drummer-turned-rapper Tommy "Wannabe" Lee as well as the more "modern" sound of Generation Swine in favor of a raw-sounding, more rockin' Crue. And it truly works! This CD is a blend of Shout at the Devil and Dr. Feelgood in the sense that it rocks hard, it's very catchy, and is rude as hell - typical Crue! Lead vocalist Vince Neil sounds as great as he's ever sounded (he really shines on "Hell On High Heels"), plus he's the epitome of "cool." Bassist Nikki Sixx proves he definitely can write a good song, and play the hell out of a bass. Mick Mars plays his ass off on this record; he's very underrated as a guitar player and it shows. New drummer Randy Castillo's performance is great, but his drum sound could have been heavier and packed more punch, but that's producer Mike Clink's fault, not Randy's.

Overall, New Tattoo is a fun listen, it's filled with the traditional anthem rockers ('Treat Me Like The Dog I Am'), heavy metal tunes ('Fake', 'Porno Star'), power ballads ('Hollywood Ending'), and a few surprises (a cover of 'White Punks on Dope'), and previously uncovered ground (the Bad Company-ish title track). So, if you're up for some seriously Ass-Kicking Rock N' Roll, then pick up New Tattoo, for Motley Crue still Rawks!
