The latest CD by Racer X, Superheroes, is the epitome of shred. Here you have four of the most talented shredders on the face of the earth getting together to display their musical virtuosity for the sake of self-indulgence. And I must admit to you, I love it! Actually, there's more to it than that as Superheroes is a thematic album with a somewhat humorous approach. I won't give it away, but I assure you that fans will get a kick out of it.

Musically, the album is an onslaught of musical debauchery, drummer Scott Travis leads the way with a thunderous beat that makes you wonder if he's really an octopus. Singer Jeff Martin sounds his Halford best, and bassist John Alderete is just amazing, from the Entwistle school of finger picking. And what can be said about Pablo Gilberto? One of the bona-fide shredders of the past decade, Gilbert gives another spine-tingling, hair-raising performance.

Superheroes will remind you of classic Judas Priest with a touch of King Diamond, and Neo-Classical undertones. In other words, classic Racer X. Song highlights include the title track, "King of the Monsters", "Evil Joe", "Viking Kong", and their astonishing remake of Blue Oyster Cult's "Godzilla."

Shred, Shred, and more Shred!!! That's the word of the day as far as Superheroes is concerned. But it is also the best album Racer X has ever done. Shred fans should definitely pick this up.
